Bear Trust is currently conducting a pilot study to test The Curriculum Guide to The Bear Book with teachers and students in the following 9 states:  Alaska, California, Idaho, Kentucky, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Virginia, and Wyoming.

The Curriculum Guide to The Bear Book targets students in grades 9-12, addresses STEM goals, and meets National Science Standards.   The Curriculum Guide includes 8 lessons that link to stories about bear science highlighted in The Bear Book.

In New Jersey, Hudson Farm is sponsoring the pilot study for 1,000 students in Sussex County.

For teachers in Alaska, Bear Trust is collaborating with the University of Alaska Anchorage to provide a continuing education course based on lessons in the Curriculum Guide to The Bear Book.  As part of this continuing education course, Bear Trust collaborated with Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game to conduct a “teach the teachers” workshop.  The workshop was held on November 11-12, 2011.  This workshop was sponsored by the following organizations:
